OCT examination

An OCT examination gives the optometrist a highly accurate knowledge of your eyes that is simply unavailable with any other technology. This extremely detailed understanding of your eyes can help in early detection helping your optometrist to diagnose and manage retinal problems before avoidable, permanent damage is done.

For this procedure, we use a highly innovative instrument called Stratus OCT which gives a unique view called a direct cross sectional image of your retina. Other machines show the surface of these structures, OCT shows what is below the surface.

Direct cross-sectional imaging is so named because it enables a direct look at a “cutaway” view of the layers of the retina and optic nerve, and accurately measures their characteristics

The OCT is the only instrument that provides these images, so it’s the ultimate tool for precise diagnosis and treatment enabling us to better identify and diagnose many types of retinal abnormalities.
